When Valko was first revealed, you already know, we quickly started looking at ways to incorporate him into Deepspace Fest. Following the recent, unfortunate developments surrounding his planned release and subsequent cancellation, it just became even more important to us. We've been spending all this time looking at what we could realistically change while preserving the experience for everyone who had already purchased tickets and supported the event. The result is an approach that we hope both honors Valko and remains fair to the community as a whole.
Thoughts on Valko
Over the past few weeks, we've taken some time before speaking publicly on a greater level about our thoughts on what's happened to the game and Valko.Like many of you, we have a passion for Love and Deepspace. It's introduced us to cherished friends, unforgettable memories, and a community that has allowed us to create events celebrating these LI. That dedication the community has for this game is why we believe it's fair to expect more than the situation we see today.We oppose the decision to remove Valko from the game. It sends the message that genuine creative work can simply be discarded rather than supported when pressure arises. While frustration with the state of the game has existed for some time, we believe removing a character is not the actual solution to those broader concerns. Players deserve more thoughtful decision-making that gives more consideration to a global perspective and the developers behind Valko deserved to have their work supported, not erased.There is an immense room for improvement from the company and we hope they can take this as an opportunity to earn the trust of the community again. We recognize that this will be a long road ahead for them and us. Trust isn't earned back easily, and meaningful change from companies rarely comes from a single fix. Advocating for Valko's inclusion AND the kind of game we want to see will take patience.Including Valko in Deepspace Fest is our team's own small way of saying that he, and what has been done to him, won't be forgotten. Whatever decisions are made at a higher level, the hard work and love that went into creating him deserves to be remembered.We also want to recognize that we found some of the discussion surrounding his situation difficult to read. While we've seen many valid, perspectives from around the world regarding the game's historical insensitivity, we've also encountered hurtful commentary targeting Valko's appearance, skin tone, and perceived sexuality. We hope everyone chooses to reject that kind of rhetoric. People can express disappointment with the state of the game without losing sight of empathy.If there's one thing we'd emphasize it's to, continue making your voice heard respectfully. Share your feedback through the appropriate channels. Explain why this matters to you! Communities have always played an important role in shaping the games they love, and constructive feedback is more powerful than hostility.We're hopeful! Not because we know change is guaranteed at x or y date, but because we believe this community is always worth fighting for. We love this game. We care about what more is to come for it. And it's because of our passion that we'll continue hoping for better and working toward that future.

We're excited to share that 60% of proceeds* from our limited Valko merch sold on-site during Deepspace Fest will be donated to the wolf sanctuary, 🔗Wolf Haven International, with the remaining 40% of proceeds supporting the costs of this volunteer-run event.Please look forward to future previews of our on-site merch!100% of proceeds** from our print-on-demand 🔗Valko Collection will go the sanctuary as well.
You can expect our donation to be made no later than December 31, 2026.Wolf Haven International has worked for wolf conservation since 1982 under the mission: conserve and protect wolves and their habitat. Accredited by both the American Sanctuary Association and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, Wolf Haven has rescued and provided a lifetime home to over 325 captive-born wolves, wolfdogs, and coyotes at sanctuary locations in Tenino, Washington and Bridger, Montana.

Understanding Our Event Budget
On the topic of proceeds, we often describe Summoner's Stories as a not-for-profit organization, and we wanted to share what that really means. Although we are not a registered non-profit, every dollar, every cent, from ticket sales and event purchases goes into the event (or charity).Venue costs, insurance, equipment, printing, supplies, and other expenses add up quickly. The reality is, our event budget doesn't always cover everything. Throughout the years, many additional expenses have been personally covered by members of our Head Staff, not because we would ever expect a return, but because we believe those extra touches make for a better experience not only for our attendees, but people involved in the event.We don't share this to ask for sympathy or recognition. We just think our community deserves transparency about how these events come together. Your support doesn't create profit, it forms the foundation of the event and we appreciate that and always add onto that!
A note from the lead organizer
While our event has a budget, there are always ideas and little details that go beyond what it can realistically cover. Rather than cut those elements, I've personally invested several thousand dollars. That's been true for past events as well. Not only for me, but other Head Staff and partners involved.Summoner's Stories isn't a job, it's truly what people call a passion project. It's something my friends and I have built alongside full-time careers because we love events. For me personally, this has always been about creating something meaningful, not creating a business.I have to say though, I really appreciate people supporting my creative work with their financial support. 🥹 As a designer, I get a lot of joy seeing people ordering my designs on our Merch Shop. I hope for your continued support!I also want to be open about another thing.As our events have grown, so have the expectations and that's something I don't take for granted and am honestly nervous about. It's an amazing privilege that so many of you look forward to what we create. At the same time, I hope you'll remember that behind everything, it's just us doing our very best with limited resources and time. We'll continue strive for you, but I also hope you'll extend us a little grace when things aren't perfect and maybe even a little scrappy.The Valko situation has been difficult for many of us, myself included of course. Just as much as this event is for the LI of this game, I'm looking forward to continuing to turn this event into a celebration of you (the MC!) and your resilience.We'll keep working hard on Deepspace Fest and we're excited to see you there!

Your own good judgment and courtesy towards others are key. Ask and receive consent whenever you interact with Cosplayers, staff, and other attendees.Respect each others' boundaries and differences.
Harassment, insults and bullying is never acceptable.Please watch out for each other, take care of one another, help those who need help, and be careful. Stay clean, stay sober, and stay safe!Please don’t leave the Event with strangers, and make sure your friends know when you leave or if you are going home early. Minors, when allowed to attend, should always stay with their guardian or parent and never follow after any unknown adults.Please don’t hesitate to notify staff or event security if you see anything suspicious. Make sure to follow instructions from local law enforcement, Event Staff, Venue Staff, Security, and any listed signage.To participate in and/or attend any event organized by Summoner's Stories, (referred to below as the “Event” regardless of event name and type), you must comply with this Code of Conduct in order to attend and/or participate in these Events. Please follow local laws, rules, and regulations when selecting your costume or outfit.Assaulting, threatening, behaving inappropriately to another person, discriminating conduct of any nature whatsoever, making racial, religious, ethnic, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, or other slurs, bullying, and/or expressing any act of hatred towards another.
Lewd or offensive behavior, such as profanity, obscene language or conduct, exposing nipples or genitals, making recordings in bathrooms, bedrooms, or of nipples, genitals or up skirts.Conducting commercial or business transactions without the Event's prior written consent, including without limitation, selling food or beverages from unauthorized carts, stands, or ice chests inside or outside Event venues; solicitation of money, contributions, or donations; distribution of commercial advertising or promotional material of any kind, such as signs, flyers, cards, or offers of discounts on rides, or other products or services; or offering items or samples of items which are sold, available for sale, or available in exchange for a donation or contribution.Unlawful conduct or failure to comply with the policies, rules, or instructions of Event staff, the Event facility, venues affiliated with the Event, or law enforcement officers.
Any noise or music that is disruptive to other attendees or the operation of the Event.Attaching stickers, adhesives, signage, or attachments of any kind to walls, ceilings or any Event Property within Event premises.SMOKING/VAPINGNever Inside: No smoking or vaping is permitted inside any of the Event Facilities, unless there is a place specifically designated by the Event Facility that permits either.Limited Outside: Smoking or vaping must be at least 20 feet away from all entrances per California Government Code Sections 7596-7598; no smoking is permitted in outdoor dining areas.ALCOHOL AND ILLEGAL SUBSTANCESPossessing any open can, bottle or other receptacle containing alcoholic beverages is not allowed. Possessing any illegal substance.
